Where someone started explains so much of who they became. The answer is often a house, a street or a smell, and those are exactly the details a family loses when nobody writes them down.

Ask it on a quiet afternoon, give time for the answer, and write down the small details. That is where the story lives.

  1. When and where were you born? What do you know about the day you arrived?
  2. What were your parents like? Describe each of them in a few words.
  3. What is the very first thing you can remember?
  4. What did the house you grew up in look, sound and smell like?
  5. Did you have brothers or sisters? What were they like as children?
